Who We Are
Wajir Champions for Change is a Community-Based Organization (CBO) dedicated to addressing key challenges in Wajir. Focused on peace, prosperity, education, health, economic empowerment, governance, and social justice, the organization drives impactful, community-led initiatives.
Recognizing Wajir’s rich cultural heritage and socio-economic complexities, the CBO emphasizes inclusive, sustainable interventions. By actively engaging local communities, it ensures its programs align with real needs, fostering lasting transformation.
Where We Work
Wajir Champions for Change operates in Wajir County, a vast and historically significant region in North Eastern Kenya. Covering 56,685.9 km², the county is bordered by Somalia, Ethiopia, Marsabit, Isiolo, and Garissa. It experiences an arid climate, with an annual average rainfall of 240mm and temperatures around 27.9°C.
Wajir County comprises eight sub-counties and six constituencies, with a population of 781,263 (2019 Census). Despite its sparse population density, the county faces unique socio-economic challenges, including limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
Through community-driven programs, Wajir Champions for Change focuses on peacebuilding, education, health, governance, and economic empowerment. We work alongside local communities to implement sustainable development initiatives, fostering resilience and long-term progress in the region.
